Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra (BIT Mesra) is a proud collaborating institution in the ICMR-funded national research initiative titled:
“Non-invasive method for detection and analysis of anemia in pregnant women using deep learning-based model: A Multidisciplinary, Multicentric Study”
This project aims to develop a non-invasive, AI-powered diagnostic model capable of detecting anemia, grading its severity, and classifying its underlying cause among pregnant women—using only clinical images, peripheral blood smear images, and numerical laboratory data.
Funding Agency – ICMR
The study is supported by the
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi,
under its Investigator-Initiated Small Grant Programme (IIRPSG).
ICMR’s support enables the creation of an accessible, scalable technological solution to improve anemia screening and maternal health outcomes in India.
Coordinating Centre – RIMS Ranchi
The project is centrally coordinated by
Rajendra Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), Ranchi, Jharkhand,
under the leadership of
Prof. (Dr.) Archana Kumari,
Department of Obstetrics &Gynecology.
RIMS Ranchi functions as the administrative and scientific hub, responsible for:
- Protocol design & harmonization
- Ethical clearances
- Standardized data collection & clinical examination
- Oversight of laboratory investigations
- Quality control across all participating sites
- Guiding validation of the deep learning model
RIMS also serves as the largest contribution site in sample recruitment and dataset generation.
